Aperture Laboratories: Part One

Level:Aperture Laboratories: Part One
Made By: comphermc
See what the author says about the level in the Author Commentary
Creativity: The usage of buttons levers and switches are highly ingenious in this level, and much like little dead space this level is a little big version of its true self. the author attempts to copy the Portal game with striking results. the task is simple, to put a block onto a switch and continue onto the next area, but how that task is accomplished is the amazing part. you must platform, shoot and open doors using the skills you have in little big planet.

Dimensions: The author makes great use of all three layers in this level. you must be decisive about which layer you are jumping into and from and act upon that, then while doing that you are getting shot at by miniature robots. the dimensional aspect of the level is also used to create an atmosphere of more than just the game play itself the author uses pillars to make it seem like you are inside the Aperture building, and the background is amazingly similar to the game Portal

Lighting: Global lighting is dark enough for me to believe that the game was lit by florescent lighting, but still bright enough to have led lights of blue and orange, which also help bring back fond memories of killing Glados.

Sounds: There are just enough alerts and dings to make me believe that I am still playing portal, while I am still in Little Big Planet, and the background music is slightly noticeable to make it atmospheric which is fine.

Re-playability: Even I make mistakes, and after being told by the author it appears as though there are some secrets they are just exceptionally well hidden, and although I haven't found them all I can assure you they are worth looking for, because they give stickers and cool objects and I am also told if you find all of the secrets you unlock a special race mode.

The only complaint I can make about this level is that the last part was somewhat hard, but if you follow the visual clues left in the game you should do fine. for the effort and skill put into this level I am giving the level a 10 out of 10.

I agree that the last part is a bit tricky, but it was amazing!

  2. Thanks for the review, and apologies for being so off-putting with your PSN message. I get a lot of spam via my inbox.

Very thorough and thoughtful review. I will courteously disagree with the replay-ability comment, as finding all six secrets grants you access to a hidden race mode.

Oh well, thanks for the kind words regardless. It is much appreciated.
